Oral Cancer Screenings

Bexley dentist Fred Kaufman performs oral cancer screenings on all patients during his examination.  With the recent  diagnosis of Michael Douglas with throat cancer the public has become more aware of this tragic and often disfiguring or fatal disease.

Studies show that there is a direct link between certain strains of the Human Papilloma Virus (STD) and oral cancers.  For this reason the ratio of those affected by oral cancers  has gone from a 5:1 male to female  to a 2:1 ratio.  It is recommended that oral cancer screenings begin at age sixteen.  The other main contributing factors are smoking, alcohol abuse, and family history.

April is Oral Cancer Awareness month but every day we are aware of the disease.
